Timesheet / Hours Worked Calculator

Add a row for each clock-in/clock-out pair — split shifts and lunch breaks are just separate rows. A clock-out earlier than its clock-in is treated as crossing midnight.

How Timesheet / Hours Worked Calculator Works

This tool adds up the time between each clock-in and clock-out pair you enter -- one row per shift or work block -- so you can see your total hours worked across a day or split shift, and optionally what that time is worth at an hourly rate.

Formula & Method

For each row, the calculator converts both times to minutes since midnight and subtracts: clock-out − clock-in. If the result is negative -- meaning clock-out is earlier in the day than clock-in -- it adds 24 hours (1440 minutes), treating the shift as crossing midnight into the next day. All valid rows are then summed and converted to decimal hours (minutes ÷ 60). If you've entered an hourly rate, estimated pay is simply total hours × rate.

Worked Example

With the default two rows -- 09:00 to 12:30, then 13:15 to 17:45 -- the first row is 3h 30m (210 minutes) and the second is 4h 30m (270 minutes), for a total of 480 minutes, or 8.00 hours. At an hourly rate of $25, that comes to an estimated $200.00 in pay for the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I account for a lunch break or split shift?
Add a separate row for each block of work time -- for example 09:00–12:30 for the morning and 13:15–17:45 for the afternoon -- and leave the break itself out of both rows. The calculator sums every row, so the unpaid gap in between is automatically excluded.
What happens if my clock-out time is earlier than my clock-in time?
The calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours to the duration -- so a clock-in of 22:00 and clock-out of 06:00 is treated as 8 hours, not a negative number.
Is the hourly rate required?
No, it's optional. Leave it blank to see just your total hours worked; fill it in to also see an estimated pay figure alongside each row's duration.
Can I remove a row I don't need?
Yes -- each row has its own remove button, though the tool always keeps at least one row so there's always something to fill in.
