Tally Counter

Set your starting count, then tap the down button each time β€” great for mala/japa counts, workout reps, or counting down anything by hand.

How Tally Counter Works

This tally counter is a digital countdown clicker: you set a starting number, then tap a single button once for every rep, bead, lap, or repetition until the count reaches zero. It replaces a physical clicker or knotted string for anything you count down by hand.

Formula & Method

The tool holds one running number in memory, starting at whatever you set. Each tap of the − button subtracts exactly 1 from the current count and updates the display immediately. The down button disables itself once the count reaches 0, and a short vibration (on devices that support it) confirms you've hit zero. "Reset to Starting Count" simply restores the count to the value currently in the Starting Count field, so you can start the same countdown again without re-entering it.

Worked Example

Set Starting Count to 108 (a common mala/japa count) and tap the − button once per bead or repetition. The display starts at 108, reads 107 after the first tap, 106 after the second, and so on, until it reaches 0 and the down button disables itself -- confirming all 108 reps are complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the counter save my progress if I refresh the page?
No -- the count is held only in the page's memory while it's open. Refreshing or closing the page clears it, so set your starting count again to begin a new countdown.
Can I use this to count up instead of down?
This tool is built specifically as a countdown clicker -- it only decrements. If you need to count upward from zero, set a starting count and read the display as "remaining," or use one of the related counting tools for an up-count.
What happens when the count reaches zero?
The down button becomes disabled so you can't go below zero, the display is marked as complete, and on devices that support it the browser triggers a short vibration to signal you're done.
Can I change the starting count partway through?
Yes -- moving the slider or typing a new value in the Starting Count field immediately restarts the live count from that new number.
